TOUR OF THE GRAND CHAVALARD

Three-day trek, nights in a hut and a great summit at the end. The tour of the Grand Chavalard (2899m) crosses territories belonging to two Valais communes.

The panoramas it offers to those who hike it are exceptional, as are the fauna and flora of the site.

ABOUT THE ADVENTURE

Group size: 4 - 10 persons

Difficulty: Medium

First day, the most physical; Meeting at the Parking de l’Erié (possible to park further down in Fully and climb together), then departure for the crossing under the Grand Chavalard to the Col de Blé.

Then climb the Tête du portail. Once at the top, the view of the Alps and the Rhône Valley is breathtaking.

We have a picnic lunch at the summit and then descend to the Sorniot hut for a rest. The lower lake at Fully is the perfect place to take a dip. An aperitif will be served with a story of the region before dinner.

The next day, we climb the Col de Fenestral, home to the ibex and lammergeyer. Then down to the Lui d’Août gîte. Arrival in the afternoon. Dinner and last night in the hut.

Third day, to finish gently, return to the Erie car park.

DAY 1

Ascent Grand Chavalard

Equipment: Anti-sweat underwear, warm and waterproof clothing in case of bad weather, poles, 2.5L water bottle, thermos flask, 30L bag, mountain boots, silk sleeping bag, picnic.

Difficulty: 8.2 km – 555m ascent +

  • 09:00 – Check-up at the car park, departure to the Col de la Blé.
  • 09:30 – Drop off of equipment not required for the summit at the pass.
  • 09:45 – Departure for the ascent, about 2 hours of climbing.
  • 12:00 – Arrival at the summit of the Grand Chavalard!
  • 13:00 – Descent to the Sorniot hut.
  • 14:30 – Arrival at the hut. Refreshments and rest followed by an aperitif by the lake. Half board 60.- (One free night for every 7 people)19:00 – Supper and a well-deserved sleep.

DAY 2

Col Fenestral & Lui d’Août gîte

Equipment: Anti-sweat underwear, warm and waterproof clothing in case of bad weather, poles, 2.5L water bottle, thermos flask, 30L bag, mountain boots, silk sleeping bag, picnic.

Difficulty: 7.8 km – 440m ascent + / 500m decline –

  • 08:00 – Breakfast and preparation of equipment.
  • 09:00 – Departure for the Col de Fenestral.
  • 11:30 – Arrival at the pass, picnic break.
  • 12:30 – Departure for the descent to the Lui d’Août gîte.
  • 15:00 – Arrival at the gîte, rest, aperitif, terrace. Half board 69.-
  • 19:00 – Dinner and sleep.

DAY 3

Back to reality

Equipment: Anti-sweat underwear, warm and waterproof clothing in case of bad weather, poles, 2.5L water bottle, thermos flask, 30L bag, mountain boots, picnic.

Difficulty: 4.4 km – 380m difference in altitude

  • 08:00 – Breakfast and equipment preparation.
  • 09:00 – Departure for the return trip to the L’Erié parking lot.
  • 11:30 – Arrival at the parking lot.
