SORNIOT HUT (Snowshoeing)

Three-day race, life in a rustic hut in the middle of nowhere and a small summit at the end.

ABOUT THE ADVENTURE

Difficulty: Medium

Meeting point at the car park of the Ovronnaz ski lifts. Take the lifts to La Forcle. Big crossing of the combe de l’Euloi then climb to the Col de Fenestral. A long descent into the Fully mountains to the Lac-Inférieur de Fully, where you will find the Sorniot hut, your accommodation at 2064m, with a breathtaking view of the Valaisan Alps.

The hut is not guarded in winter. Far from any infrastructure, we will have to bring our own food and drinks, melt the snow and feed the stove : ) A stay a bit out of time!

The next day, we climbed the head of the portal in the early morning, a small summit right on the corner of the valley! 360° view on the Rhône valley. Picnic and return in the afternoon to the hut to spend the second night.

Third day: return by the same route to Ovronnaz.

DAY 1

Ascent to the Sorniot hut

Equipment: Anti-sweat underwear, warm and waterproof clothing for jacket and trousers, snowshoes, sticks, 2L water bottle, thermos flask, 35L bag, winter shoes, sunglasses and sun cream.

Difficulty: 7.5 km – 460m altitude difference +/-

  • 13:30 – Check-up at the car park, lift to the Col Express.
  • 14:00 – Start of the trek to the Col de Fenestral.
  • 16:00 – Break at the Fenestral hut.
  • 16:15 – Descent from the Col to the Sorniot hut.
  • 17:15 – Arrival at the hut. Refreshments and check-in to the dormitories.
  • 18:30 – Dinner and digestives at the table.

DAY 2

Ascent of the Tête du Portail

Difficulty: 4.0 km – 300m altitude difference +/-

  • 08:00 – Breakfast and preparation of equipment.
  • 09:00 – Departure for the ascent of the Tête du Portail.
  • 11:00 – Arrival at the top of the Tête du portail.
  • 11:30 – Departure for the descent to the Sorniot hut.
  • 12:30 – Aperitif, preparation of snacks.
  • 14:00 – Rest, terrace, entertainment.
  • 18:30 – Dinner and digestives.

DAY 3

Return all the way to Ovronnaz car park

Difficulty: 7.5 km – 460m altitude difference +/-

  • 07:30 – Breakfast and preparation of equipment.
  • 08:30 – Departure for the Col de Fenestral.
  • 10:00 – Arrival at the pass, break.
  • 10:15 – Descent to Col Express, ski lifts.
  • 12:15 – Descent with the ski lifts, arrival at Ovronnaz.
