EMOSSON DINOSAUR TRACKS (Geological Trail)

Hike above the Emosson lakes and dams; at the end of the trail, we’ll discover footprints dating back more than 240 million years.

Meet at the parking lot next to the dam. From Martigny, head toward Emosson via Finhaut.

Halfway along the route, you can stop for a bite to eat at the Cabane du Vieux-Emosson.

Then return to the parking lot via a different route.

We recommend sturdy hiking boots, appropriate gear, and plenty of food and water. Weather conditions can change rapidly between 1,900 m and 2,500 m in elevation.

DAY 1

Equipment: Anti-sweat underwear, sweater and waterproof in case of bad weather, poles, 1.5L water bottle, 25L bag, mountain boots.

Difficulty: 7.5 km – 860m ascent + / Return 4.5 km – 860m decline –

  • 9:30 AM – Check-in and departure from the dam parking lot (transportation available from Martigny).
  • 11:30 AM – Mid-hike break with refreshments
  • 2:00 PM – Arrival at the dinosaur tracks
  • 2:30 PM – Hike back down to the dam
  • 4:00 PM – Arrival at the dam parking lot and light refreshments
